On November 1, 2024, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Moshi Cooperative University (CoU), Prof. Alfred Sife, met with staff members from the Cooperative and Business Education Institute (KICoB) to discuss various important issues. During the meeting, Prof. Sife congratulated the new employees who recently joined the university and urged the staff to offer full support to the newcomers.

He also praised the staff for successfully concluding the 2023/2024 academic year and achieving institutional goals. The Acting Vice-Chancellor stressed the importance of continued hard work for the upcoming 2024/2025 academic year and emphasized the need for staff collaboration in executing the university’s core functions: teaching, conducting research, and providing advisory services.

“We must provide community services to the society around us,” said Prof. Sife. He encouraged each staff member to perform their duties diligently and professionally to help the university meet its objectives. He further highlighted the importance of discipline, ethical behavior, and responsible management of the university’s resources, including human resources, financial resources, and all other assets.

Prof. Sife also called for innovation and creativity in tackling the challenges posed by limited resources, particularly in the areas of student assessments and teaching. He cited the example of “artificial intelligence” technology, which students are increasingly using to cheat, and urged faculty to be innovative in adapting to this technological challenge.

In addition, the Acting Vice-Chancellor stressed the need for staff to continue mentoring and guiding students, especially since many of them are young and vulnerable to various risks. “It is not acceptable to see our students going astray while at the university,” he said, encouraging staff to strengthen their skills as advisors.

He also emphasized the importance of clear communication within the university and the need to avoid workplace conflicts. Staff were urged to continue increasing the student enrollment, set personal goals, and update them in the university’s PEPMIS (Planning and Performance Management Information System).

In his closing remarks, Prof. Sife shared that his term as Acting Vice-Chancellor would soon come to an end after five years in the role. He thanked the entire university staff for their cooperation during his tenure and expressed gratitude for the support he had received. “Thanks to God for guiding me throughout my leadership journey,” he concluded.
